If you are not accustomed to public speaking, making a wedding speech can be very daunting. Conquer your wedding speech nerves with these tips to help you overcome your nervousness and deliver a great wedding speech.
1. Remember that these people are on your side. They are not secretly hoping you will mess up. They are all there because of the bride and groom. They will want to hear your speech and will hope that you will do well.
2. Practice your speech wedding several times before the wedding. The more your practice, the less nervous you will feel on the wedding day. Remember to practice the delivery of your speech as you would naturally speak.
3. Memorize the speech. Even if you use index cards, you will be able to deliver your speech more naturally and with confidence if you have it memorized.
4. Remember to breathe. As easy as it may seem, this is often overlooked. Practice where you will take a pause.Diaphragmatic breathing, used by singers and speakers will help you here. If you are unfamiliar with this technique, a quick search on the internet will show you more information.
5. Before giving your speech, think positive thoughts. You could even think about a funny story to get you in a happy mood. This can help relax your nerves, before getting in front of the audience.
6. Speak slowly and clearly. When people are nervous, they tend to talk quickly. Speak slowly and clearly so that people can hear and understand what you say.
7. Make eye contact with people in the audience. Find two or three people scattered throughout the audience to focus on. Pretend you are only speaking to those select few.
8. Finally, enjoy yourself and have fun! Your life will not end if you make a mistake. In fact, most everyone will be understanding if you do make a mistake since the majority of people there do not like public speaking either.
You can deliver a great wedding speech with confidence. Just utilize these tips and you will do very well.
